I wanted to be a travel writer.

Armed with a college degree, I intended to work my way around the world and write stories of my adventures.

It didn’t end up that way. I wrote a lot, but none of it was any good.

So I headed back to college, this time for a master’s degree in writing. I hoped the degree would teach me what I needed to know to edit the messy manuscript I’d just completed, a memoir of my time in the Peace Corps.
